Yeah, I -liked- DHALGREN, despite the fact that it was considered kind of cool to pan it almost from the time it first appeared. I thought it was cool that it started with the second half of a sentence and ended with the first half; I liked the fact that it appeared as a genre science fiction novel despite being about a million pages long (which was absolutely unheard of at the time), and I thought it had some good characters and good writing, even though I realized that I probably wasn't understanding all of what I was reading. And the weird type-setting and juxtaposed blocks of narrative were fun, too. I will probably never pick it up and read it again, but I remember it pretty well and am glad that I stuck with it the one time. It's sf's answer to James Joyce.
