It took me a while to get in to this, but once I did I was really swept up in the life of the Nolans. I read this right after finishing The Grapes of Wrath, so I am really feeling blessed to be living in this affluent era. But even though the Nolans didn't have much money, they had love and hope. I tend to gravitate towards books with males as the main protagonist, but I enjoyed reading this from the view point of young Francie Nolan, the character Betty Smith based on herself.

I love this book and the whole series. I've read them several times.
