I really appreciate how Riordan keeps the main strand of the story-- Kronos' rising and the forces battling Olympus-- going, while having a completed storyline at the end of each book. This one kept my interest pretty well, but I had a bit of a hard time visualizing the characters and setting at the end. I think it would help if I were more familiar with Greek mythology! (How many kids have become "experts" because of Riordan?!)

An easy interesting read. It is listed as a memoir and is definitely more of that than an in-depth look at working class trials and tribulations. Iain regales us with anecdotes about jobs he's worked and writes well so one feels as if they can at least understand the hardships of each job. In one, he works at a sort of upscale grocery store where the managers follow corporate rules to a T, even at the expense of logic and reality. In another, he describes the desperation of young men travelling to a rough and tumble Alaskan town in search of money rent free. For a book written in 2002, it definitely still has a lot of relevance 10 years later, except for his analysis of the internet. A pretty good read all in all.
