Who could argue with this as the top pick for the Newberry this year! Jinx reminds me of Huck Finn: he is renown for his hijinks yet he is a very ethical young man. It is wonderful how Abilene slowly grows to know and love the town of Manifest, as she learns to divine each town member's person history and the ties that bind everyone together.

why does this book always have such TERRIBLE covers? don't let them turn you off. dianna wynne jones is fantastic across this board, and this is my favorite of her books. it's written for a slightly older audience than many of the others (dogstar, etc).

A wonderful, insightful and powerful read. I would highly recommend this for all interested in politics, woman's movements, or really anyone who voted in the 2008 election.
