A great story. But I feel like I must warn would-be readers that the plot, itself, is fairly flawed...if I hadn't seen the movie a decade ago and sort of knew what to expect, I think I would've had an incredibly hard time getting past the glaringly illogical resolution to the main conflict. But I truly don't feel like this is what the story is really about. The real drive of this story is the conflict between the two cultures, the unavoidable miscomunications that occur when two clashing cultures are put in such close quarters, and, of course, the ugly prejudices of the English towards the Indian. This is only the second novel I've read by Forster, but once again, the characters are so rich and the prose gorgeously laid out. For that alone, it is worth the time.
