This is an amazing biography. Walls writes beautifully and her family draws you into their life from the first sentence. I'm still reading it and will write more later. I loved this book. I would recommend it to anyone to read, but especially those who are in the mental health profession. Her parents are so interesting. This will be a book I will read again.

I'd not heard of the July, 1942 arrest of 10,000 Jews by the French police so from a Historical perspective this was an enlightening read. I never did warm up to Julia however and the story became tepid after learning the fate of Sarah's brother.

Despite the fact that this book was overall rather slow to read, occasionally cumbersome in its use of language, and rather depressing, I enjoyed it. However, I must admit that I read it in pieces, rather than straight through, so that may have made it more bearable. I enjoyed the depth to which Hardy developed his characters, and all the intricacies (and dysfunctions) which he managed to describe within human relationships. All in all, not a bad read for a classic, but it is definitely not a book to read if you are depressed or suffering from relationship problems.
