** spoiler alert ** 3-23 I am listening to this as an audio book. There are four main characters: Megan, Kendall, Lelani, and Anna. These girls are roommates, and are celebrating the holiday season on their own. Megan's mom is on a cruise, Kendall wants to avoid her young annoying nieces and nephews, Lelani doesn't want to go to Hawaii where her family lives, and Anna is excited about the idea of an old-fashioned Christmas party hosted at their house this year. Each girl seems to have some "boyfriend issues" and there is Kendall's alcoholism problem to get a handle on. 3-26 The girls invite the most unlikely guests to their party. Megan invites an elderly woman she met as a client needing her parlor redecorated. Kendall invites her Nana from the nursing home, and Lelani invites an elderly shoplifter who she befriends at her Nordstrom job. Anna is angry with Lelani, who she blames for her breakup with her boyfriend Jake. She has moved back home, but whether this move is permanent remains to be seen. Megan is trying to put God first and alienating her boyfriend Marcus, and Lelani is cooling it with Gil (Anna's brother) until things are smoothed over with Anna. Then there's Kendall who had her heart broken when Matthew Harmon (famous actor) shunned her advances. 3/27 The Christmas party reunites the roommates, although it is not attended by their social group. Their elderly guests enjoy themselves, and the girls feel good about having them over. After the party they confess their problems to each other and they bond. Christmas morning they decide to work at the mission feeding the homeless. This reminds them of a parable, where Jesus tells of a rich man who had a wedding party yet all his rich friends where too busy to come. Instead the poor came and celebrated with him, just as the homeless came together at the mission. The experience awakens the girls, especially Kendall, bringing realization of all the blessings they have. Their boyfriends arrive to help with the cleanup. Kendal has the most serious situation as she worries that she may have gotten pregnant from her one-night affair. The girls promise to help her, and she seems to have started to make a change for the better.

Excellent. I feel like I understand so much better how to relate to those oh-so-loveable, yet never-quite-reacheable men in my life!
