I enjoyed this. The characters are brilliantly written. Its a bit to philosophical at times and sometimes I wanted to shout 'Oh pull yourself together !' at Sarah but on the whole a lovely book.

While I was in Borders today I stumbled upon these little Green Start board books. While I love that they're earth friendly, this one was my least favorite of the four I read. There's nothing particularly wrong with this book - in fact, it encourages kids to eat fruits and vegetables, which is a good thing. But it bothered me that the kids just picked stuff right off the tree or in the field and then ate it without washing it or anything. I know that sounds crazy, but we don't live in a world where you can just pick something off a vine and pop it into your mouth and it's guaranteed to be good and healthy and clean and not kill you. For whatever reason, the lesson that I shouldn't eat berries off of bushes because they could be poison was very deeply instilled in me as a child. I have no idea why since I didn't exactly live near any wooded areas or anything. In any case, that's my completely paranoid take on this book.

This is a definite improvement over book two, and I have to admit to possibly liking it more than the first book, hence the extra star. Thankfully, Martin trims most of the fat here that bogged down the second book, amps up the drama considerably and the payoffs of earlier plot seeds begin to take root. If you weren't too sure about the series after the second book, definitely give this one a try, it'll bring you back around.
